Why Choose Mindful Blooms Counseling?
I know that opening up about your struggles can feel intimidating. Here are some things you might want to keep in mind when considering if we should work together:
I’m Licensed
I am a fully licensed therapist which means I’ve been through multiple years of rigorous training and I can practice completely independently. This also allows me to diagnose, treat, and support clients with a wide range of mental health concerns. This license also requires me to do regular Continuing Education Courses so I can stay up to date on the changes in my field.
I’m Christian
I know there’s still a lot to be done when it comes to understanding the importance of mental health in Christian spaces. Sometimes *well-intentioned* people may say things like “Just pray and then you’ll feel better” or “All you need to do is give it to god”. This can be really dismissive of the very real and often clinical struggles that you’re experiencing. By seeing a Christian counselor, you get to work with someone who understands and respects your beliefs while also giving you effective ways to find healing. Please keep in mind that faith-based counseling is only incorporated upon request.
I’m a Millenial/Gen Z Cusper
Sometimes you just need someone who gets it! Were you obsessed with BuzzFeed Quizzes, Pinterest, Jenna Marbles, and Harry Potter? Me too! Do you also experience the crippling anxiety of whether you’ll ever be able to afford a house or if it’s worth it to get a little sweet treat? Same. Same.
Do you also struggle with the need to stay informed about what’s going on in the world, but also sometimes feel like you can't really do much to change anything? I can definitely relate.
All of the things I’ve mentioned heavily impact our mental health. I see you. You won’t have to spend time explaining why these things matter to you because I feel it too.
I’m Black
Did you know that only 4.1% of therapists overall are Black or African American? I’m both Black and African American (there is a difference, I know)! My father is from Nigeria and my mother is a Southern Black Woman. The magnitudes of these backgrounds are something that not everyone understands unless they’ve lived it.
One of the worst feelings is when someone makes you feel like you’re exaggerating, overly emotional, or just too angry. Not here. Here, you can just exist. You can take the mask off. Take off your superhero cape, and just feel. As a black mental health therapist, I can reinforce the idea that mental health care really is for everyone and give you the healing you deserve.
